Plato’s Cave Allegory

The Greek philosopher Plato said that most people live their lives in a cave with fire behind them, observing only the distorted shadows of their ‘reality’ on the walls of the cave i.e. not accurate representations of the true forms of objects under the sun. It’s an allegory emphasising the importance of perception through reason, logic and education. People who escape from the cave, come to understand that they have been misled and the shadows on the wall of their caves were not the true images. This message has always been important but even more so in the current world of false narratives, spin and propaganda. Ask yourself if you live in a cave or walk in the sun?
